چکیده

Case Report A 56-year-old right-handed woman was admitted because of worsening of a right-sided hemiparesis and dysphasia for 20 days. Vascular risk factors were smoking (40 pack-years) and a family history of cerebrovascular diseases. Neurological examination showed decreased spontaneous movement, expressive dysphasia, a right-sided hemiparesis and a left-sided arm paresis (MRC scale: 3+/5). Duplex sonography (Aplio XV; Toshiba), magnetic resonance angiography ( fig. 1 a; 3 Tesla MRT; Trio; Siemens) and cere-

Management of haemorrhagic stroke with hyperbaric oxygen therapy--a case report.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been used in the treatment of cerebral ischaemia with positive effects on tissue oxygenation. We present a case of haemorrhagic stroke treated successfully with HBOT and review the literature on its role in cerebrovascular disease.

A review of oxygen therapy in ischemic stroke.

Neuroprotective drugs have so far failed clinical trials, at high cost, and intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (i.v. tPA) remains the only FDA-approved acute stroke therapy. Hyperoxia, acting via multiple direct and indirect mechanisms, may be a powerful neuroprotective strategy to salvage acutely ischemic brain tissue and extend the time window for acute stroke treatment. Of the availabl...

Treatment of nervous system injuries by hyperbaric oxygen: a review of molecular mechanisms

Background and aims: The use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is one of the treatment methods to treat many diseases and injuries such as decompression sickness, wound healing, carbon monoxide poisoning, thermal burns, and nervous system injuries. This article aims to review the possible mechanisms of the effectiveness of this treatment in neurological injuries according to the available studies...

Cystic brain necrosis and temporal bone osteoradionecrosis after radiotherapy and surgery in a patient of ear carcinoma.

Brain cyst formation of temporal lobe induced by radionecrosis in ear carcinoma is rare. A 73-year-old man with basosquamous carcinoma of the left external ear canal received excision of tumor and postoperative radiation therapy in 1992. For osteonecrosis of the left temporal bone, a series treatment including oral and intravenous antibiotics and hyperbaric oxygen therapy was given in following...

Effects of normobaric versus hyperbaric oxygen on cell injury induced by oxygen and glucose deprivation in acute brain slices

Normobaric oxygen (NBO) and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) are emerging as a possible co-treatment of acute ischemic stroke. Both have been shown to reduce infarct volume, to improve neurologic outcome, to promote endogenous tissue plasminogen activator-induced thrombolysis and cerebral blood flow, and to improve tissue oxygenation through oxygen diffusion in the ischemic areas, thereby questioning th...
